Family, friends remember Strip shooting victim

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Family and friends are mourning the loss of Ken Cherry Jr., the man who was fatally shot while driving a Maserati on the Las Vegas Strip. The aspiring rapper, who goes by the name "Kenny Clutch" in his YouTube videos, recently moved to Las Vegas from Oakland, CA, to pursue his music career. His loved ones describe him as a loving father of three who didn't deserve to lose his life so soon.

Cherry's former attorney, Vicki Greco, tells FOX5 the public's perception of her former client and friend is horribly inaccurate.

"I know there's been some speculation on that in the media about him being a known pimp, however, to me, that's not how I know him," she said.

Greco says Cherry put off a certain persona to be successful in the rap industry, but behind closed doors the 27-year-old was not a criminal, but a loyal friend.

She said, "I don't think the fact that he was driving a Maserati or the fact that he has long dreadlocks should characterize him as a criminal." She says she has no knowledge of him having a criminal record in Nevada.

Family members who gathered at a candlelight vigil in Oakland Thursday night said Cherry is a dedicated family man whose youngest daughter is only a couple months old. "There's nothing but love. There's nothing negative I can say about him," Dudy Irvin, one of Cherry's cousins, told local media.

Now the family is seeking justice over the loss of their friend, brother and son. "I just have to go deal with it and mourn my son's death," said Ken Cherry, Senior. Family members are in the process of claiming his son's body.
