Clark County Commissioner Steve Sisolak is calming any fears about safety on the Las Vegas Strip after Thursday's shooting and fatal crash.

"It's not something that obviously happens on a regular basis in Las Vegas," said Sisolak. "It's an unfortunate situation but it clearly is not reflective of what goes on on Las Vegas Boulevard."

But this isn't the first Strip violence to happen this month.

On Saturday two people were arrested at Mandalay Bay after a man was stabbed inside an elevator at "THE hotel".

Earlier this month three people were injured when shots were fired in the parking garage by the Showcase Movie Theaters.

"Unfortunately there was a couple that happened relatively in close proximity to each other that obviously gets everyone's attention," Sisolak said.

And it's that attention that UNLV Center for Gaming Research Director David Schwartz said could scare away tourists.

"Definitely not good news anytime you have any kind of fatality around the tourist area," Schwartz told FOX5.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is also trying to restore confidence in tourists' safety, by releasing this statement:

"Recent incidents, while unfortunate, were isolated events. Las Vegas is among the safest travel destinations in the world and utilizes the most advanced technology and training to maintain a secure environment."

Still Schwartz admits any publicity is good publicity.

"It's hard to say whether they hurt the city or even in a perverse way help the city, but it does get people talking about Las Vegas," Schwartz said.
