Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department SWAT team and K-9 Unit are showing up in force to support Rare Disease Day on Feb. 19.

They'll be making an appearance at the Children's Specialty Center of Nevada to support the Kops 4 The Kids event, the public is invited to join them from noon to 4 p.m.

The themed for the event is "Hope is in our genes", it's a reminder that tackling rare diseases as a community helps build solidarity and breaks families from their isolation.

There are more than 6,000 rare diseases affecting more than 60 million people in Europe and the U.S. alone.

Most of these diseases affect people in similar ways and are genetic, serious, chronic and debilitating.
