LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
A woman who was celebrating a relative's birthday in Las Vegas over the weekend suffered multiple stab wounds in what appeared to be an attack by her boyfriend.
Family members, citing police, said Sharron Jones was stabbed at least 17 times inside her family's home late Sunday night with some relatives witnessing the attack.
According to Las Vegas Metro police, officers were called to the home near Maryland Parkway and Silverado Ranch Boulevard about 11:30 p.m. Offices forced entry into the residence and found a wounded Jones, according to Metro.
Her aunt, Antoinette Gaffney, said the mother of four who had been visiting from California passed away while on the operating table.
Jones was supposed to return home on Monday.
According to family members, Jones and her boyfriend were in town to celebrate a birthday. They said after a birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese restaurant, the boyfriend cornered Jones in the kitchen, took out a hidden knife and attacked her.
"He was just stabbing her," said the victim's aunt, Charlene Jones Barnes. "We threw stuff and he turned around and looked at me…He looked at [the witnessing family members] like he was coming after us so we got up on the roof."
Police were able to take the boyfriend, whose identity was not immediately disclosed, into custody. Detectives were still looking into what prompted the incident.
Barnes, though, said the couple had a volatile relationship and the boyfriend made threats in the past. Family members also said the two did not show signs of trouble during the visit until Sunday night.
