VSU's O'neal gears up for another break out season

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Valdosta State running back Cedric O'neal will have to be on his A game to duplicate the kind of freshman season he had with the Blazers.

O'neal broke several records as a true freshman finishing the year with just under 1200 yards and 14 touchdowns.

O'neal plans on surpassing many of his accomplishments from last season on the field as a sophomore but wants to focus more on his leadership this coming year.

He's beginning that process this spring by staying after practices and putting in some extra work. It's something he's learned from last year's seniors.

"Last year I was the baby of the group and everybody was telling me what I needed to do to work on my game but now this year I kind of have a feel for it so I'm coming in real focused and just ready to play." Said O'neal

Head coach David Dean said "He does realize there's a lot of good football players behind him. We do have a lot of good running backs and if he doesn't work hard and put himself in a position to get better those guys will pass him up."

The VSU offense rushed for the most yards in school history last season
