LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

UNLV football on Wednesday named its new defensive coordinator, and it's a familiar name.

Tim Hauck, younger brother of head coach Bobby Hauck, will call the shots for the team's defense and brings with him a wealth of football experience.

Tim Hauck played safety in the NFL for 13 seasons, appearing with the New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers, Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts, Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers.

Tim Hauck, 46, spent last season as an assistant coach for the Cleveland Browns, overseeing defensive backs. Prior to that, he was an assistant secondary coach for the Tennessee Titans and coached safeties at UCLA.

"We are certainly fortunate to convince someone with Tim's experience and pedigree to come here and work with us," Bobby Hauck said. "The other thing that is important is cohesion in the staff and Tim is certainly someone that this coaching staff knows and is comfortable with. He had numerous other opportunities but chose UNLV because he wants to be part of what we're doing here."

"I enjoy the NFL but this was a great opportunity for me," Tim Hauck said. "UNLV is a team on the rise and I look forward to working for a football program that is extra meaningful to me because of the four years my brother has put into it."
