Stone Mountain Police Department announced one of their officers was arrested in connection with a drug operation by federal agents.

Ten metro Atlanta police officers protected drug dealers as they flooded the streets of Atlanta with cocaine, federal indictments show.

Stone Mountain Police department released a statement that said Officer Denoris Carter had a serious lapse in judgment to get involved in criminal activity and betray the public's trust.

Officer Carter has been placed on unpaid administrative leave pending an internal investigation.

Yates said the officers took thousands in payouts for their work with single transactions anywhere from a few thousand dollars to as high as $7,000.

CBS Atlanta News will have developments in this investigation.
