TUCSON, AZ (AP) -

University of Arizona Provost Andrew Comrie is getting a hefty pay raise now that President Ann Weaver Hart has appointed him to fill the university's No. 2 administrative post permanently.

Comrie is a climatologist who has been a professor and administrator at the Tucson-based university for 20 years.

He has served as provost on an interim basis since last August.

The Arizona Daily Star reports that his new salary is $408,000, up from $300,000 as interim provost.

Hart's announcement of the permanent appointment says Comrie exemplifies the qualities of "innovation, discipline, creativity and a spirit of partnership and collaboration."
