A neighborhood in Henderson is getting a brand new place to play. The city of Henderson and Ryland Homes will join Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen, members of the Henderson City Council and the community to celebrate the official grand opening of the Avellino Park from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 23.
The new, 5-acre park includes a lighted basketball court, covered picnic tables, barbecues, an open grass area, a playground, restrooms and a walking path.
Avellino Park was developed by Ryland Homes and constructed by Sunstate Companies through the city's developer turnkey program. Under the program, parks are developed in accordance with city guidelines and then dedicated to the city for public use.
Henderson City Manager Jacob Snow says the turnkey program helps keep the city's budget on track.
"Turnkey parks bring tremendous value to our residents because they help us to keep pace with the community's needs without relying on our general fund to do so," he said. "The city enjoys positive relationships with our local development community, and Avellino Park is a fine example of that. Ryland Homes has helped to make a great neighborhood even better."
Avellino Park is located at 1050 Chaparral Rd., and will be open 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. For more information, visit cityofhenderson.com.
