LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Nevada Assemblyman Steven Brooks was released from the Clark County Detention Center  Sunday evening after spending the day held on suspected domestic battery.

Metro officers responded to the 6000 block of Turtle River Avenue in the northeast end of the Las Vegas valley to investigate reports of domestic battery at about 12:15 a.m.

When officers arrived, they encountered Brooks in the driveway of the residence. Brooks seemed agitated and refused to obey officers' commands.

According to police, when officers attempted to take Brooks into custody, he fought with them and tried to take one of the officers' weapons.

The investigation determined that Brooks had physically attacked a family member and was arrested for battery and domestic violence.

He was also booked for obstructing a police officer.

This marks Brooks' 2nd arrest in a month. On Jan. 19, the lawmaker was arrested for alleged threats made toward Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick.

Brooks could face expulsion from the Assembly pending recommendations made from a committee investigating his conduct.

In addition, Brooks announced Thursday he would take a leave of absence for three weeks to resolve a health matter.
