Study from ExerciseFriends.com hows people may be creating a “Failure Habit" regarding dieting and exercise. Study supports ongoing findings that working out or dieting with a partner gives significant health benefits not found when working out or dieting alone.
Austin, Texas (PRWEB) February 07, 2013
ExerciseFriends.com released a study showing 78% of people starting a diet or exercise regimen in January know they will fail---but they start anyway.
The results also show over 89% of those who started a diet had tried other diets before. Often these people had tried 3-4 different diets, all of which eventually failed. The results showed that diets are a repeat business and unfortunately for many, a failure.
84% of those who started an exercise program in January or February had done so around the same time in the past 4 years. The results show motivation to get fit is strongest in the first quarter and wanes dramatically in March through May.
The poll raised the question of whether people are creating a “failure habit” that leads them to start diet, fitness and exercise programs they know they will not complete. If so, this is clearly something that is fueling the national obesity rate, now at over 30%.
ExerciseFriends.com founder Patrick McCluskey commented: “Our study confirmed what everyone knows—exercise programs and diets fail at an alarming rate because people cannot stay motivated. On a cold winter morning, people will get out of that warm bed if they have someone else waiting for them—otherwise they may roll over.”
Jay Valentine of ExerciseFriends.com said the study findings show diets and exercise programs typically fail. Valentine noted: “Unfortunately people should not throw out those size 12 jeans because they will be back in them in 6-9 months. Only working out with a friend seems to consistently work.”
ExerciseFriends.com, is the first social media community to discover the secret that dieting fails 99% of the time and exercise programs started in January typically fail by May yet when dieting or exercising with a friend----people exceed their goals 95% of the time.
Launched as an Austin, Texas startup ExerciseFriends.com has grown to hundreds of thousands of members applying social media to America’s most dangerous health problem---obesity.
ExerciseFriends.com now teams with leading health, fitness, diet and wellness leaders to change the workout paradigm to working out with a friend. Proceeds go to charity.
