NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (FOX5) -
North Las Vegas has a new top firefighter. On Wednesday the City Council tapped acting Fire Chief Jeff Buchanan to fill the post.
"I am pleased to have Chief Jeff Buchanan lead the North Las Vegas Fire Department," City Manager Tim Hacker said. "In the time he has served as acting chief, he has streamlined the department and implemented greater efficiencies to better serve the public. He is an asset to the city and the community at large."
Buchanan will oversee a department with 168 employees and a $32.6 million budget. His annual salary will be $143,325.
Buchanan, who has been with the department since 2001, had served as assistant chief beginning in October 2011 and acted as chief in the absence of Al Gillespie, who was released in August 2012 following an incident during a fire training exercise.
