CARSON CITY, NV (FOX5) -
Despite previously agreeing to a leave from the Nevada Legislature, lawmaker Steven Brooks decided Tuesday he will instead stay in Carson City to serve in the Assembly.
According to FOX5's Kevin Bolinger at the Nevada capital, Brooks did not sign off on the leave during a meeting with Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick and Assemblyman William Horne.
In a news conference, Kirkpatrick and Horne announced Brooks' decision to keep serving.
During the first day of the new legislative session on Monday, Kirkpatrick told media Brooks agreed to take the leave.
Brooks was also sworn into the Assembly on Monday.
Kirkpatrick indicated the leave was proposed for Brooks to work out health issues following his arrest on charges of threatening her.
Kirkpatrick said Tuesday the committee to determine if Brooks is mentally fit to serve is scheduled to commence Thursday. The committee can only recommend an action for the full Assembly body. The process could last a couple of weeks.
