HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) -

Henderson city council members are slated to vote on whether to convert a pedestrian thoroughfare at the District shopping center into a two-way street.

The owners of the District at Green Valley Ranch planned on paving the street while also creating dozens of parking spots.

Plans call for the street, which would be an extension of existing Village Walk Drive, to stretch from the corner that includes outdoors store REI to Green Valley Ranch Casino and Resort.

Vestar Development said it hopes the new street will bring customers closer to the restaurants and stores located there.

Meanwhile, a group of residents have organized to oppose the plans, saying the street raises safety concerns and will disrupt the District's aesthetic.

Last week, the city's Planning Commission voted 5-1 for the roadway to be built.
