Time stands still as Sandy Hook Chorus sings 'America the Beautiful'

New Orleans -

The Super Bowl will be remembered for a lot of things - two bothers coaching against each other, a nail-biting finish and a lengthy delay after the lights went out.

But, here in Connecticut, for many the Super Bowl will be summed up not with play on the field, but rather from the voices of 26 young children from Sandy Hook Elementary School.

From the very first note, time stood still.

The 26 third- and fourth-graders, the number representing each student and adult killed inside Sandy Hook nearly two months ago, silenced the New Orleans Superdome and caused Super Bowl parties to pause.

At Chicago Sam's in Cromwell, you could hear a pin drop inside the sports bar.

"It just puts everything into perspective," said one patron. "It's a game. It's the Super Bowl. But there is so much more to it."

Wearing white shirts and a green ribbon that's become synonymous with Sandy Hook, the group sang their hearts out.

Taking part and singing in the back row was the brother of Ben Wheeler. The 6-year-old was one of the 20 first-grade students killed in the school Dec. 14.

A statement was delivered on behalf of the school saying, "We have come to New Orleans to represent the Sandy Hook family and the community of Newtown, Connecticut. Our wish is to demonstrate to America and the World that we are Sandy Hook and we choose love."
