Las Vegas Metro police on Friday remembered a fallen officer on the seventh anniversary of his death.
Sgt. Henry Prendes was shot and killed by a domestic violence suspect on Feb. 1, 2006.
Prendes, along with several other officers, responded to a report of a man beating a woman with a stick and breaking vehicle and house windows on Feather Duster Court, near Durango Drive and Russell Road.
Prendes approached the door of the house, and the suspect, the victim's boyfriend, opened fire with a semi-automatic rifle, striking him.
Prendes fell on the sidewalk. Officers couldn't reach him because the suspect kept them pinned down with his weapon.
The suspect then went to the second floor of the home and continued firing on officers, who kept trying to get to Prendes.
A member of Metro's Gang Unit heard the call and responded with a rifle. He was able to shoot and kill the suspect, sustaining a bullet wound in the process.
Prendes was with Metro for 14 years. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
