CARSON CITY, NV (FOX5) -
Nevada Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick will seek the formation of a special committee regarding lawmaker Steven Brooks, who is accused of making threats toward Kirkpatrick.
According to an announcement by the Nevada Assembly Democratic Caucus, the committee will investigate whether Brooks' case will be turned over to a special independent counsel.
The committee will also report and make recommendations to the full Assembly regarding any actions to be made against Brooks, according to the NADC.
Friday's announcement is the latest in a saga involving the embattled North Las Vegas lawmaker.
Brooks was arrested Jan. 19 for the alleged threats to the Assembly Speaker, both of whom are Democrats.
Brooks has also exhibited bizarre behavior following his arrest, including no-showing a planned news conference, appearing shirtless in a Las Vegas Review-Journal cover photo and being hospitalized for a mental evaluation after an incident involving his grandmother.
Brooks and the rest of the Assembly are scheduled to convene for the new session on Monday.
