School coach suspended after spectator struck with ball

Posted: Updated:
SPRING HILL, TN (WSMV) -

A high school basketball coach has been suspended without pay and ordered to stay away from school property after an incident during a game Monday night.

Angela Muir is the head coach for the girl's basketball team at Summit High School, but she's been pulled off the court and out of the classroom after a recent incident during a game.

Summit won a game on a shot just before the final buzzer, but that's not what the buzz is about now.

Spring Hill's head coach Missy Prince said she saw what happened on the court that may have led to Muir's suspension.

"All I saw was my girl, Lisa Butler, she was guarding her. They got across the half-court line, and their point guard threw the ball into the stands," Prince said.

The ball struck a female Summit student who was sitting on the floor in front of the bleachers.

"I didn't see anything as being intentional," Prince said.

The Williamson County School System isn't saying what, if any, role Muir may have played in the ball-throwing incident, including whether she provoked it or condoned it.

Muir isn't talking about the incident or her suspension either. She said she isn't allowed to discuss it on the advice of her attorney.

"She a super nice lady. I really think a lot of her," Prince said.
