LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A sergeant in the Saudi Arabian air force is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing Thursday in a Las Vegas child rape case.

Mazen Alotaibi, 23, was charged in the sexual assault of a 13-year-old boy at Circus Circus Hotel and Casino on New Year's Eve.

Thursday's hearing in Las Vegas Justice Court is slated to present evidence and to determine if the case can be tried in state court.

A judge set bail for the military officer at $1,220,000 on Jan. 18.

Police said both the suspect and the victim were vacationing in town. Alotaibi's attorney said his client was drunk when allegedly told police of the encounter, the Associated Press reported.

The hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m.
