LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Fire investigators were trying to determine how flames erupted on a vacant home in northwest Las Vegas.

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue reported the fire about 1:30 a.m. Thursday in the 5400 block of Rock Creek Lane, near Ann Road and Jones Boulevard.

According to LVFR, the fire was concentrated on the garage portion of the two-story home. Firefighters needed 40 minutes to control the flames.

Neighbors told fire investigators the home had been vacant and may have been in the foreclosure process. Despite that, LVFR learned, neighbors said someone had been staying in the home and stealing utilities from other residences.

Fire officials also learned police had responded to reported disturbances at the home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The blaze gutted the garage and damaged the second floor of the home, LVFR said. Damage was valued at about $125,000.
