BRIDGEPORT, CT (WFSB) -
The family of a man who appears to get beaten up by Bridgeport police on a newly released video is speaking out.
Three officers - Elson Morales, Joseph Lawlor and Clive Higgins - have all been placed on paid leave after a YouTube video allegedly captured them using a stun gun and then kicking a suspect.
Sonia Soto said the suspect is her son, 27-year-old Orlando Soto, and he is currently in jail on weapons charges.
"He never said anything because Bridgeport police (are) so corrupt that nobody would believe him anyway," she said.
The video was said to have been shot in May 2011 at Beardsley Park.
About 20 months after the beating, the recording was posted on YouTube.
Attorney Robert Berke said Soto was initially stopped for a traffic violation, but got out of his car and ran.
Berke said after the beating, his client needed six stitches on his face.
The Bridgeport police chief said an internal investigation has been ordered and if violations are found, they will "take action."
The family said they intend to sue all police officers involved.
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People said they've been fighting against for decades and the group issued a charge to the police department and other city officials.
"Ask the mayor, the police chief, and police commissioner to get rid of these people immediately," said Connecticut NAACP President Scot Esdaile. "We want them to get rid of them swiftly and decisively."
Bridgeport Police Chief Joseph Gaudett Jr. met with members of the NAACP Monday.
"I had a productive and frank conversation with the NAACP," he said in a statement Monday. "I assured them that a timely, thorough and fair investigation will be conducted. At the same time, it is imperative to provide investigators the time to do their work."
