CHANDLER, AZ (CBS5) -

Chandler police said an 18-year-old girl with special needs who walked away from an assisted care facility Sunday night has been found safe in Phoenix.

Officers did not release details of how Katie Stull, of Chandler, was discovered on Monday.

Stull did not return to the care facility after a walk about 7 p.m., according to Seth Tyler of the Chandler Police Department.

Tyler said Stull is deaf and has the mental capacity of a second-grader.

Chandler and Gilbert police conducted the search for Stull, Tyler said.

Officers said the case remains an open investigation through the police department's family crimes unit.
