LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
A company in southern Nevada made sure some 800 elementary school students got the opportunity to read.
Nonprofit organization Spread the Word Nevada presented Richard Rundle Elementary School in Las Vegas with books and tools to encourage literacy.
The organization said a $50,000 endowment from Barrick Gold Corporation made Friday's gift to Rundle Elementary possible.
Spread the Word noted Rundle as an at-risk school in the Clark County School District. Barrick's gift allows for free books for two years, as well as monthly family literacy events, tutoring programs and fun activities.
Rundle celebrated the gift with a school assembly on Friday. Each student received five free books to take home.
