PAHRUMP, NV (FOX5) -
A Pahrump man admitted to killing his neighbor and dumping the body in the desert, according to sheriff's deputies.
The Nye County Sheriff's office said a distraught Peter Jason Helfrich, 36, called deputies Wednesday confessing his role in the slaying of his neighbor the night before.
According to deputies, Helfrich said he dumped the body just off Wheeler Pass Road outside of Pahrump, hoping it would get eaten by coyotes.
Search crews located the body over a ravine in Wheeler Pass, which is just west of Mt. Charleston in Clark County, deputies said. The Clark County Coroner's office is assisting in identifying the body.
Sylvia Castillo, 35, of Pahrump was apprehended and questioned by Detectives. Castillo admitted that she became aware Helfrich had killed the man and subsequently assisted him in driving the deceased man's body several miles east into Wheeler Canyon, according to deputies.
Deputies said Helfrich and Castillo then disposed of the man's remains.
Helfrich was booked into the Nye County Sheriff's Office Detention Center on counts of first degree murder, destroying or concealing evidence, battery with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit a crime.
Castillo was booked into the Nye County Sheriff's Office Detention Center on counts of accessory to murder and destroying or concealing evidence.
