James Clifton Craft (Mohave County Sheriff's Office)
KINGMAN, AZ (FOX5) -
A dispute between neighbors led one to fatally shoot the other, authorities in northwest Arizona said.
The Mohave County Sheriff's Office arrested 70-year-old James Clifton Craft of Kingman late Tuesday night.
The sheriff's office said Craft called deputies, saying he had shot someone outside of his home.
According to investigators, the victim – 27-year-old Matthew James Paulson – was yelling at Craft outside in their joint front yard of a triplex residence.
Another neighbor tried to intervene in the dispute, but Paulson continued to yell at Craft, who was inside his home, deputies said.
A popping noise was heard and Paulson apparently was shot, the neighbor told deputies. Paulson walked back to his home, where he was found dead.
Deputies were told that Paulson was not armed at the time. The source of the dispute was also not known.
Craft was taken into custody at Mohave County Jail on a second degree murder charge.
Deputies confiscated a semi-automatic handgun at the scene.
