Special teams and a lone shootout goal lifted the Las Vegas Wranglers over the ECHL-leading Alaska Aces during a Monday matinee game at Orleans Arena.
Aces forward Shawn Skelly drew first blood, scoring 11 minutes into the first. Wranglers defenseman and captain Mike Madill drove home a power play goal with 1.1 seconds remaining in the first.
Wranglers left wing Andrew Sarauer scored a shorthanded goal less than five minutes into the second period. Aces forward Nick Mazzolini tied it up later in the period.
With the third period and overtime scoreless, Wranglers left wing Matt Carter nabbed the lone shootout goal, giving Las Vegas a 3-2 win.
The Wranglers will embark on a road trip before returning to Orleans Arena to face the Bakersfield Condors in a four-game series beginning on Wednesday, Jan. 30.
