Gas prices drop slightly in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Las Vegas saw just a small drop in the price of gas as the national average holds steady.

AAA's Fuel Gauge Report showed the average price of gas in southern Nevada at $3.02 a gallon on Monday.

The price stood at $3.04 a week ago, AAA said.

The price is already about 40 cents cheaper than the price from this time in 2012.

Nationally, the average price of gas held steady at $3.30 a gallon.

"While gasoline prices have seemingly remained virtually unchanged in many areas across the U.S. in the last week, that has meant that some areas are still seeing prices remain much lower than a year ago," said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan. "Gasoline prices in the Rockies generally remain under their year ago levels, with the lowest price in the country in Laramie, Wyoming, where gasoline has plunged to $2.35/gallon. The national average now lags prices one year ago by 9-cents per gallon, which is a more optimistic start to the year than I would have expected."
