LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Fire investigators are working to determine what started a house fire that did $150,000 in damage and displaced three people on Friday afternoon.

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue Spokesperson Tim Szymanski said the blaze was reported at 4:51 p.m. on Kenny Way, near Alta Drive and Valley View Boulevard.

The fire was intense and thick smoke could be seen from around the valley.

Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy flames coming from the rear of the one-story, wood frame house. The fire was coming dangerously close to the house next door.

The blaze was quickly elevated to two alarms. City and county firefighters responded with a total of 23 units. Firefighters had the blaze completely out within 30 minutes of arrival.

Three people live at the house, two of which were home when the fire broke out. They were able to safely escape with their two dogs.

The survivors said they noticed a glow coming in through a rear window which faces the patio. One of the occupants was going to try to put the fire out with an extinguisher, but quickly realized it was too large.

Investigators believe the fire started on the home's rear patio. Nearly everything inside the house was destroyed. The American Red Cross will assist those displaced.
