Habitat for Humanity restores Vegas neighborhoods

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas helped restore a part of Las Vegas history.

The group partnered with volunteers from Youth United and the Great Basin Institute to provide minor exterior repairs to homes at two Vegas Heights neighborhood.

The program called, "A Brush with Kindness" helps provide a facelift on aging neighborhood within the metropolitan area to help increase home values and give a sense of pride for its residence.

Habitat for Humanity has been helping Las Vegas since 1991, providing affordable homes to working families earning less than 80 percent of the area's median income. The homes are sold at no profit through a no-interest mortgage.

The organization also has three ReStores in Southern Nevada, which sell overstock building materials, furniture, home goods and appliances to the public at discounted prices.
