LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Nevada saw a dip in the unemployment rate to close out 2012.
According to the state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation, the jobless rate dipped from November's 10.8 percent to December's 10.2 percent.
This also equated to about 138,800 unemployed people in the state, which is the lowest the rate has been since February, 2009, according to DETR.
In addition, Las Vegas' jobless rate fell from 13.3 percent in December, 2011 to the following December's 10 percent.
"All major indicators suggest that Nevada ended the year on a strong note ," Bill Anderson, chief economist for DETR said. "Unemployment is down, job readings are up, and initial claims for unemployment insurance are trending down. Along with other factors, this gives clear indication that Nevada's economy is indeed on the mend. While improvement is slow, these are still good signs that we are heading in a positive direction."
The department also reported the jobless rate averaged 11.6 percent in 2012, which equated to a drop of nearly two percentage points from 2011.
Stay tuned to FOX5 for the latest on this developing story.
