LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
A Las Vegas man charged in the beating death of his 7-year-old stepson was scheduled to appear in court Friday.
Markiece Palmer, 34, was arrested last month after Roderick "R.J." Arrington, Jr. died in the hospital from critical injuries.
Las Vegas Metro police said, in an arrest report, Palmer admitted to striking the boy with his belt before shaking him on Nov. 28. Markiece Palmer also told police, in the arrest report, the child ran down a flight of stairs, slipped and hit his head on a table before falling backwards on the floor.
R.J.'s mother, Dina Palmer, was also charged in the death. She told police, in the arrest report, she would often punish her child when he failed to complete homework or read Bible passages.
Markiece Palmer's preliminary hearing Friday in Las Vegas Justice Court was scheduled for 8 a.m.
Dina Palmer's next hearing was scheduled for March 1.
Both remain held in Clark County Detention Center.
