School warns parents of homeless convicted sex offender

Posted: Updated:
PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Lincoln High School sent a warning letter to parents earlier this week after students reported seeing a convicted sex offender near another area school.

Gordon Strauss was convicted of rape, assault and several other charges in the 1970s and is now out of prison.

Last week, authorities circulated a picture of Strauss, along with a warning that he is homeless and living on the streets in the Pearl District of northwest Portland.

Lincoln High School administrators decided to send a warning to parents after students reported spotting Strauss outside St. Mary's Academy in southwest Portland.

Police pointed out that Strauss has not broken any laws since his release, but because he is registered as homeless, his location is difficult to track.
