LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
With talk of new gun control legislation right around the corner, gun stores across the Las Vegas valley are having trouble keeping up with demand.
"Anything that they look to ban, is what people, I won't say in a panic, but they look to stock up on … we saw it in '89, we've seen it in '94, we saw it again in what, 2008. And here we are again, it'll push sales up," said Mike Heck, general manager of 702 Range, a gun show and range on Dean Martin near Tropicana.
High capacity magazines and assault rifles are some of the top sellers as rumors swirl about the president moving forward to ban them.
"None of the dealers in town really have anything in high capacity magazines, everything is kind of sold out and they're just waiting for distributors to restock," said Clifford Wilson, general manager of The Gun Store on Tropicana near McLeod.
At the Sands Convention Center is the SHOT Show, one of the largest trade gun shows in the country.
Typically that means slower than normal business at The Gun Store, but Wilson said this year that's not the case.
"Today we've been a little bit busier than we normally would have been, a lot more gun sales are going on now," Wilson told FOX5.
Meanwhile, stores say some manufactures have stalled production until they're sure how the president's plan will affect sales.
"Especially now because they're looking at what happened with New York this morning, and now they really don't know, and a lot of people are concerned," Wilson said.
Local firearms dealers hope the president's announcement tomorrow will provide them with some answers on how to run their business moving forward.
"A good businessman has multiple contingency plans on the what-ifs, we stocked up on certain items and some things we just have to wait and see how it plays out," Heck said.
