SCOTTSDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

For those who want to be at the pinnacle of their performance, look no further than a simple blood test. Some local companies tout their tests as the best way to get in shape.

You've heard the phrase "no pain, no gain" - so a simple prick in the arm might be a small price to pay to find out your vitamin deficiencies and even disease susceptibility.

"People are taking control of their own health," said Jeri Seidel with Any Lab Test Now.

Let's say you do everything you're supposed to in the gym, and you make all the right choices at the grocery store, but you're still not getting the results you want. That's where Any Lab Test Now comes in; they offer a plethora of blood tests to help you determine how healthy you are.

"Testosterone Free and Total is popular. It goes along with the estrodyle test, Vitamin D testing," Seidel said.

"There are advanced laboratories that go beyond the normal blood test," said Patti Larson with Spectracell Laboratories.

Any Lab Test Now takes the sample, then sends it to a laboratory. One test floods the white blood cells with peroxide to see how quickly they die. Another bombards the cells with nutrients like Vitamin B to see how easily they're absorbed.

"What can I do to be more healthy, instead of how sick am I and what prescriptions can I take?" she said speaking of questions people should ask themselves.

While these tests are sought by athletes and body builders, they said that anyone can benefit from them. Katie Heil works at Any Lab Test Now but did some of the tests herself. She found out she has a higher risk of developing diabetes. So after changing her diet and exercise routine, she thinks the test might have saved her life.

"If you're nutritionally deficient you may have other underlying health issues you don't know about," she said.

The tests range anywhere from $89 for one test to a couple hundred for a series of them. For more information, visit: http://www.anylabtestnow.com/.
