Flagstaff looks at ways to finance new courthouse

Posted: Updated:
FLAGSTAFF, AZ (AP) -

Flagstaff may be able to finance a new courthouse without having to ask voters to approve millions of dollars in new bonds.

The Arizona Daily Sun says the Flagstaff City Council will be asked to approve a plan to put four parcels up for sale.

City officials are hoping to sell about 50 acres of city-owned land in order to help finance the private construction of a new courthouse and adjacent parking garage in downtown Flagstaff.

The council will decide next Tuesday whether to move forward on the sale of the properties.

Two years ago, city voters rejected $23 million in new bonds to build a new courthouse.

Last year, city officials estimated the entire project would still cost close to $25 million.
