KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Authorities are investigating after a person was shot during a reported home invasion and robbery Thursday.

A man who lives at the home suffered life-threatening injuries during the crime.

Kansas City police said the house, located on East 77th Terrace just west of The Paseo, serves as an apartment, with another female tenant living upstairs.

Police said two brothers were in the downstairs apartment about 9 a.m. sleeping when two suspects forced their way in.

The gunman put the gun to one victim's face and ordered them to hand over their electronics.

The other brother woke up, ran in to see what was happening, a struggle ensued and the suspect shot him in the chest, police said.

Even after the victim lay clinging to life, the thieves grabbed a large screen television and other electronics and left the scene.

The brother was transported to the hospital. Police say it is possible that the suspects knew the victims.

Police were told the brothers held parties and sometimes the activity was illegal.

"Usually when someone comes in and steal electronics, they've been there before. They said they had a party the night before and there were several people over," Officer Darin Snapp said. "One of them even admitted that he sold drugs. A lot of people were in and out there."

The only description police have is that the men were seen leaving in a white car with the trunk up. Police are following up to see if someone who was at the party Wednesday night is involved in the crime.
