SWAT team overcome by odor at grow house bust

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

SWAT members were overcome by an unknown irritant while moving in on a suspected marijuana grow house on the west side of the valley.

Police were tipped off by a neighbor about a possible grow house in the 3300 block of Trickling Stream near Fort Apache and Spring Mountain roads. They moved in on the house at around 7 p.m. but were quickly overcome by an odor.

Officers used a robot to clear the house while they put HAZMAT suits on.

Police have taken two suspects into custody - a male and female, both in their 40s - after they attempted to flee the house.

Police said the suspects were stealing power from neighbors and had rewired the house to accommodate the grow operation. The house contained a large number of power cords and large rooms had been divided into smaller rooms with plywood.

Officers found plants in every room of the house except for the kitchen and front living room. In all, the house contained more than 1,000 plants.

No officers needed to be hospitalized. A joint task force between Metro and Henderson police as well as DEA agents carried out the raid.
