A man was shot Sunday morning after exchanging gunfire with LVMPD officers near Bonanza Road and Maryland Parkway.
Just after 4 a.m. officers were investigating a suspicious vehicle parked in the 2100 block of Sunrise Avenue.
As officers approached the vehicle they recognized one of the occupants as the suspect in a robbery which occurred on December 29, 2012, in which the victim was shot, according to police.
As the officers were removing the occupants, the vehicle fled the scene.
Officers pursued the vehicle for a short distance until it came to a stop in the 600 block of North 12th Street, where a male and female suspect fled on foot in different directions, said police.
As arriving patrol officers were attempting to take the suspects into custody, the male suspect fired multiple rounds from a handgun at officers, according to police.
One officer returned fire striking and injuring the suspect, who was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
The second female suspect was apprehended nearby a short time later without incident.
This investigation remains ongoing.
The identity of the officer involved in this incident will be released after 48 hours.
