Campaign to aid families affected by home fires

Posted: Updated:
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A campaign launched Friday aims to raise money for local families who have lost their home to fire.

The Southern Nevada Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Professional Fire Fighters Of Nevada kicked off the annual Fire Hurts… The Red Cross Helps campaign to raise $300,000 in emergency funds.

"As professional firefighters, we respond to fires as they are happening," said Scott Gorgon with the Professional Fire Fighters of Nevada. "The Red Cross comes after the fire is out. The Fire Hurts campaign is a natural partnership with the American Red Cross as we work together to meet the immediate needs of local victims of fires."

Several community sponsors helped kick off the campaign with check presentations. Donations can be made to the campaign through the Southern Nevada Red Cross.
