A program kicking off at the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort will give local kids the chance to participate in a no-cost ski and snowboard education program that will also provide them with new helmets.

The Lids On Kids event begins Saturday, Jan. 5 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m., and marks the start of National Learn To Ski/Snowboard Month.

The program focuses on providing safety training and equipment for local youth participating in outdoor snow sports. The kids are then fitted for free safety helmets which they can keep for future outdoor activities. Kids and their parents are invited to participate in the program, presented by members of the National Ski Patrol.

This is the seventh year for the Lids On Kids Program. Since its inception it has provided more than 1,000 free helmets to local kids.
