MESA, AZ (CBS5/AP) -

Authorities removed a man's body found floating in the Tempe Canal on the Tempe-Mesa border Thursday afternoon.

The body was spotted by a resident of a nearby apartment complex near the canal, according to Mesa Fire Department Spokesman Forrest Smith.

It's not known how long the body had been in the water and the man's identity has not yet been determined, Smith said.

Smith said the Tempe police and fire departments are managing the investigation since it was determined to be in Tempe's jurisdiction.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said the man appears to be between 40 to 50 years old. Deputies said it appears no foul play was involved, but the investigation is continuing.

No other information is available at this time.
