Las Vegas is becoming the pageant capital of the world with Miss America contestants coming to town for the eighth consecutive year. They arrive at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino today, ahead of next Saturday's pageant.
Entertainment headliner Jeff Civillico of the Quad Resort & Casino will welcome the contestants during a ceremony at 4 p.m. Representatives of the Miss America Organization will also be attending, including chairman Sam Haskell, III, and president and CEO Art McMaster.
The 53 contestants will participate in a week of preliminary competitions, including interviews, fitness, talent and evening wear.
The week culminates with the ultimate competition on Jan. 12 at 9 p.m. in a live telecast from Planet Hollywood.
Today's ceremony will be on The Mezzanine Level at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino at 3667 Las Vegas Blvd. South.
