LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A accident on Flamingo Road in front of the Palms hotel and casino on Tuesday claimed a woman's life and marked the first fatal traffic accident in Metro's jurisdiction of 2013.

Police said a female driver was traveling eastbound on Flamingo at a high rate of speed, turned left onto Wynn Road and pulled into the Gold Coast parking lot.

She then made a turn in the parking lot, jumped a curb and ended up back on the westbound side of Flamingo, hitting another vehicle with a female driver. Both were transported to UMC where the first driver was pronounced dead.

The driver who was struck is said to be doing OK.

Police have not yet determined if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash or if it was the result of a medical episode.
