A house fire early on New Year's Day put three people in UMC's burn unit, according to the North Las Vegas Fire Department.

Firefighters said the blaze broke out at around 5:45 a.m. in a single-family home on Harewood Ave. near Cheyenne Ave. and Civic Center Drive in North Las Vegas.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the back of the home. They rescued a disabled elderly person from inside the home and had the blaze out within five minutes.

Three people were home when the fire broke out, two women and one man. All three were taken to UMC. The male and the elderly female were last reported to be in critical condition.

The home has significant smoke and fire damage and is uninhabitable. Investigators are working to determine how the fire started. Damage is estimated at $92,500.
