Police issue warning about drinking and driving, celebratory gunfire

Posted: Updated:
NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (FOX5) -

North Las Vegas police are warning that they'll be cracking down on those who choose to drink and drive or shoot guns into the air during the New Year's holiday.

Police said that when it comes to celebratory gunfire, what comes up must come down, posing a serious threat to those around you and yourself.

Police urge residents to ban firearms from celebrations, call 911 if you witness someone firing a gun within city limits, call 311 for non-emergency situations and to never mix alcohol and firearms.

To discourage drinking and driving, police will hold a citywide DUI saturation event from 8 p.m. through 5 a.m.

Officers will stop vehicles for speeding, running red lights and failing to maintain traffic lanes.
