David Settle (LVMPD)
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
A 68-year-old man was arrested on Sunday at a group home on West Washington Avenue near Valley View Boulevard for a pair of slayings.
David Settle was arrested and charged with two counts of murder with a deadly weapon. He is accused of killing a fellow resident of the group home as well as a caregiver.
According to Metro police, paramedics responded to a call from the home on Sunday morning to discover a deceased male and female in the home. They then located Settle, lying in a bed in the home. Those paramedics said Settle confessed to having murdered fellow resident Henry Namett, 82, and caregiver Elenita Ablao, 59.
When Metro police arrived, they took Settle into custody and took a statement from him. Police said Settle admitted to hitting Namett roughly 20 times in the head with a hammer, killing him. He then allegedly called Ablao to the room and struck her in the head with the hammer numerous times.
Police said Settle claimed he was unhappy with the care he was receiving at the group home but had no particular problems with Namett or Ablao and actually liked both of them.
Settle also attempted to commit suicide following the slayings and told police he suffers from alcoholism.
