LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
What started as a routine traffic stop has a man recovering from bullet wounds at University Medical Center.
Before 4 a.m., NHP troopers attempted a traffic stop at Tropicana Ave. and Nellis Blvd.
The driver fled from troopers, getting on the 95 and exiting at Jones Blvd. Spike strips were used to stop the vehicle, but the driver kept going. Shortly after, the suspect fled from his vehicle and a foot chase involving NHP troopers ensued.
Shot were fired and the suspect was hit. Metro police told FOX5 the suspect pointed a gun at his head and NHP troopers opened fire on him. He is currently listed in critical condition. No officers or troopers were injured.
Troopers recovered two more guns at the scene. A female passenger was located in the suspect vehicle.
Jones Blvd. was shut down at 95 as police investigated. Stay with FOX5 for updates on this developing story.
