Among the candlelight and tears Friday night, there were prayers for Jade Morris. The 10-year-old's body was positively identified by the Clark County coroner earlier in the day.

At Casa De Luz, a church near Sahara Avenue and Industrial Road, friends and well-wishers coped with the knowledge that Morris, who had been missing for six days, was the victim of murder.

"The cause of death is multiple stab wounds and incised wounds, and the manner of death is homicide," said Coroner Mike Murphy.

For those who personally knew the outgoing girl, there is only one word to describe the past week.

"Hell," said family friend Tonya Evans. "It's been horrible because Jade was a beautiful, young girl."

Evans' own 10-year-old daughter was good friends with Morris.

"Whenever she would come over, she would always sing, and we would always laugh and watch movies together," said Kayla Evans.

At the spot where Jade's body was found - an unfinished neighborhood near North 5th Street and Dorrell Road - candles and teddy bears fill the barren landscape.

Jade's family stopped by Friday evening.

"My mind is kind of in a state of disbelief, because I can't believe this has happened to my little girl," said Tejuana Reeves, Jade's mother.

For six days the family hoped for the best, but were hit with the worst.

"I appreciate everybody that's come out and left things for her," Reeves said. "It's like her life didn't go unnoticed, and I appreciate that."
