NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (FOX5) -
Metro police said in a press conference on Thursday afternoon that body discovered earlier in the day in North Las Vegas could belong to missing 10-year-old Jade Morris.
The body was discovered by a person walking his or her dog in a housing development area near Dorrell Lane and N. 5th Street. Police are speaking with the little girl's family; however, a positive ID of the body has not yet been made.
"I can tell you that the likelihood is this is our victim," said Metro's Capt. Chris Jones.
Jade Morris was last seen on Dec. 21 at 1 p.m. in the area of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Alta Drive. She was reportedly headed to the Las Vegas Outlet center in downtown Las Vegas.
Jade was last seen with 50-year-old Brenda Stokes, who was driving a 2007 red four-door Saab. Stokes was arrested Friday night at the Bellagio after attacking a co-worker with razors. That co-worker was hospitalized. Stokes remains in Clark County Detention Center.
"She (Stokes) has not been cooperative in the investigation since the beginning," Jones said.
As word of the grim discovery spread, a memorial sprang up. Michael Cabrera lives nearby and felt compelled to do something.
"It's just sand and my prayers and condolences go out to the family," he said.
