A 1-year-old who lived in Las Vegas was killed in California City, CA, just north of Edwards Air Force Base, according to the Kern County Sheriff's Office.
The child, identified as Aalyiah Jerkins, was killed last Thursday and the coroner ruled the death a homicide, a result of blunt force head trauma.
Police said officers and paramedics responded to a 911 call from a California City home on Dec. 18 reporting that a baby had stopped breathing. The child was transported to a hospital but died on Dec. 20. Police noted inconsistencies in the story provided by the people who called 911 and investigated the circumstances surrounding the child's condition.
Police said an investigation remains in effect and so far there is no word on arrests.
